Lock Haven Wrestling announces 2001 Recruiting Class

(Lock Haven, PA) - The Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania wrestling program has announced 11 student-athletes along with one transfer who will make up its 2001 recruiting class. Among the group are seven state champions with a combined 11 total state titles. Additionally, eight of the 12 wrestlers are ranked among the top12 in the nation at their high school weight class including two among the top three. State Champion (1999), 157 lbs. At Penn State: Went 22-7 as a red-shirt in 2000... Runner-up at 141 lbs. at East Stroudsburg Open... Finished third at Wilkes Open. State Champion, 157 lbs./ 6th at 145 at HS Nationals James Collins, Northern Lebanon (Pa.), Pa. State Champion, 125 lbs./ 11th at 112 at HS Nationals Gino Fortebuono, Easton (Pa.), Pa. State Champion, 133 lbs. / 8th at 130 at HS Nationals Phil Hard, Northampton (Pa.), 3X Pa. State Placewinner, 184/197 lbs. / 2nd at 189 at HS Nationals Tyrone Hodge, Orange (N.C.), 3X State Champion, 125 lbs. / 8th at HS Nationals at 119 Morgan Horner, Hasbrouck Heights (N.J.), N.J. State Champion, 197 lbs. / 3rd at 189 at HS Nationals Leslie Morrow, Sequoyah (Ga.), 3X Georgia State Champion, 125/133 lbs. / 12th at 125 at HS Nationals Dan Thoman, Dallastown (Pa.), Pa. State Placewinner, 165 lbs. Pat Trabucco, Livingston (N.J.), 3X N.J. State Placewinner, 165 lbs. / 10th at 160 at HS Nationals Steve Whitby, Lacey Township (N.J.), N.J. State Placewinner, 157/165 lbs. The 2001-2002 Bald Eagles will be led by 12th year head coach Carl Poff, who celebrated his 150th dual meet victory last season and needs only four more wins to become the winningest coach in Lock Haven history. Last year the squad set a new school mark for wins, going 21-2 in dual meets while also capturing its 19th Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship. LHU went into the NCAA Division I National Championships with a No. 21-national ranking, finishing 21st overall with one All-American, 149-pounder JaMarr Billman.
