Emma Bruntil (Acme, Wash./McKendree Univ.) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Jan. 14, 2020.

Bruntil, fresh off winning a Senior Nationals title in December, went 3-0 over the weekend, helping the McKendree Bearcats women’s team to its second-straight NWCA National Duals title.

In her first dual against Presbyterian College, Bruntil shutout Adelyhda Perez with a dominant 10-0 technical fall. In the semifinals against No. 3 Colorado Mesa, Bruntil continued her streak with a 10-0 victory over Dalia Garibay.

The Bearcats met up with No. 5 Simon Fraser in the finals. Bruntil did her part, defeating three-time WCWA Nationals finalist Nicole Depa in a decisive 7-0 performance.

The dual was eventually decided on criteria, giving the Bearcats an edge in an 18-17 victory.

Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level. Twitter fan votes also play a part in decision.

To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete's name, wrestling program, weekly accomplishments and career accolades to USA Wrestling Communications Coordinator Taylor Miller at tmiller@usawrestling.org.
