Jordan Burroughs (Lincoln, Neb. /Sunkist Kids) has been selected as Athlete of the Week on March 5, 2019.

Burroughs, a 2012 Olympic champion and four-time World champ, cruised to a gold-medal performance at the Dan Kolov International, winning the 74-kilogram bracket.

In his first round, Burroughs dominated Jitender of India with a 9-0 shutout. The win set him up for a highly anticipated second-round match against 2016 Olympic bronze medalist and 2017 World champion (at 70 kg) Frank Chamizo of Italy.

After three close bouts with the Italian during the 2018 season, Burroughs widened the gap, scoring a four-point blast double in the second period for a 9-2 win.

Burroughs won his quarterfinal match by injury default over Abylaikhan Nursultanov of Kazakhstan, before taking a decisive 7-2 win against 2018 Takhti Cup champion Ali Umarpashaev of Bulgaria in the semis.

For gold, Burroughs outlasted two-time Senior World bronze medalist Bekzod Abdurakhmanov from Uzbekistan in a 4-3 battle.

The Dan Kolov tournament marks Burroughs first win at a 2019 UWW Ranking Series event.
