Tyler Berger (Prineville, Ore./Nebraska) has been selected as Athlete of the Week on Jan. 8, 2019.

Berger, a senior and two-time All-American for Nebraska, pulled off a big win over the weekend, defeating No. 2 ranked Ryan Deakin of Northwestern in a dual.

Berger entered the dual ranked No. 3 in the nation by FloWrestling.

While in Husker territory, Berger, who trailed 1-0 in the final frame, scored a reversal early in the third period to lead Deakin, 2-1. Berger continued to push the Wildcat, tallying two more takedowns by the bout’s end for a 6-3 decision.

With the win, Berger improved to 13-1 overall and extends his unbeaten dual streak to a 7-0 mark.

Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level. Twitter fan votes also play a part in decision.

To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete's name, wrestling program, weekly accomplishments and career accolades to USA Wrestling Communications Coordinator Taylor Miller at
