Alex Dieringer (Stillwater, Okla./Titan Mercury WC/Cowboy WC) has been selected as Athlete of the Week on Sept. 18, 2018.

Dieringer competed at the Alexander Medved Prizes in Minsk, Belarus, where he eased his way through the 79 kg bracket, dominating all four of his opponents.

To open the tournament, Dieringer pinned Yasar Dogu bronze medalist Rustam Dudaev of Ukraine at the 4:17 mark. Dudaev also took fifth at the 2014 Senior World Championships.

Moving onto the quarterfinals, the past Junior World silver medalist shut out 2018 Pan American bronze winner and former Lehigh wrestler Santiago Martinez Restrepo of Colombia.

In the semifinals, he gave up his first point of the tournament in a 10-1 win over Oleksiy Sherbak of Ukraine to move onto the finals.

For gold, Dieringer faced off against 2018 Ivan Yarygin bronze medalist and 2017 Asian Indoor Games bronze medalist Dovletmyrat Orazglyjov of Turkemenistan, who scored early with an arm throw to lead Dieringer 4-0.

Keeping his compsure, Dieringer rattle off three takedowns for a 7-4 lead at the break. The three-time NCAA champion for Oklahoma State scored nine points in the second period to secure a 16-5 win and the title at 79 kg.

The win marked Dieringer’s third gold medal in 2018 as he also took home the top prize at the International Ukrainian Memorial in February and the Bill Farrell International in April.
