Macey Kilty (River Falls, Wisc./Team Wisconsin) has been selected as Athlete of the Week on May 15, 2018.

Kilty secured her spot on two age-group World Teams for this summer, winning the Cadet and Junior divisions of the World Team Trials at 2018 Women’s Nationals in Irving, Texas, last weekend.

The tournament opened with Junior competition and 17-year-old Kilty soared to the 68 kg finals, collecting three technical falls. In the best-of-three series, Kilty took on 2015 Cadet World bronze medalist and 2018 WCWA All-American Kayla Marano of Georgia.

Marano struck first in both matches, leaving Kilty to battle back, which she did. Kilty went on to tally a pair of decisions, 8-2 and 12-4, respectively, to gain her first spot on the U.S. Junior World Team.

Hours after making the Junior team, Kilty competed as a Cadet, once again easing her way to the finals with one tech and two pins.

In the Cadet finals, Kilty was challenged by Kennedy Blades of Illinois. Blades kept it closer but Kilty put up decisive 4-2 and 6-2 victories to put herself on another World Team.

This summer will mark Kilty’s second and third trips to the World stage. In 2016, Kilty competed at the Cadet World Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia, where she claimed bronze.

On deck for her this summer are Cadet Worlds in Zagreb, Croatia, July 2-8 and Junior Worlds in Trnava, Slovakia, Sept. 17-23.

Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level. Twitter fan votes also play a part in decision.
