Lucas Jeske (St. Michael, Minn./Augsburg University) has been selected as Athlete of the Week on January 9, 2018.

The Augsburg sophomore was instrumental in the Auggies recapturing the Division III title at the NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals. The win was Augsburg’s sixth at the event and first since 2010.

Augsburg dethroned seven-time defending champion Wartburg in the championship match held in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The dual meet was split five matches apiece, but Jeske’s pin in 4:56 over Derek Lee Loy helped pushed Augsburg over the top.

Jeske compiled a 4-0 record in the 165-pound division at the NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals. He earned a forfeit in the opening round from SUNY-Cortland. Jeske reeled off a 1:50 fall in the quarterfinals over Cam Hayes of North Central, in addition to a 13-2 major decision over Adrian Gonzalez of Johnson & Wales in the semifinals.

Currently the top-ranked 165-pounder at the NCAA Division III level, Jeske owns an unblemished 19-0 record on the season with 11 pins, one technical fall and three major decisions to his credit. He finished last season in third place at the NCAA Division III Championships with a 26-8 overall record.

Prior to attending Augsburg, Jeske was a Minnesota state champion and two-time MSHSL finalist for St. Michael Albertville High School. He was a runner-up at the 2015 USA Wrestling Junior Freestyle Nationals, and finished in the top eight of the UWW Cadet Freestyle Nationals and USA Wrestling Junior Folkstyle Nationals.

Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the Senior level.

To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete’s name, wrestling program, weekly accomplishments and career accolades to USA Wrestling Manager of Communications Richard Immel at
