Victoria Francis (Litchfield, Ill./Titan Mercury WC) has been selected as Athlete of the Week on April 17, 2017.

This week USA Wrestling’s Women’s National Coaching Staff is conducting its first Supergirl Training Camp that specializes in developing American women who compete in the two highest weight classes on the Senior level, 69 kg and 75 kg. Francis in particular has excelled in this new training format.

“I've been looking forward to this camp for a while,” Francis said. “It's been a great time being able to focus in heavyweight-specific technique and to have room full of quality practice partners my size. I think this camp has been a useful tool and will help me in the upcoming World Team Trials.”

The Supergirl Training Camp is being held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. alongside a joint Cadet and Junior women’s freestyle development camp and the regularly scheduled resident athlete training program. These training camps are being conducted as a final means of preparation for the U.S. World Team Trials being held in Las Vegas, Nev. next week.

Francis finished in second place at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials last April, and is the highest returning placer at 75 kg heading into this year’s Trials. She is among the 75 kg favorites to qualify for the U.S. World Team that will compete at the World Championships in Paris, France at the end of August.

Francis has a long track record of on the mat success, highlighted by a Junior World bronze medal in 2014 and two University Nationals titles from 2015 and 2016. She finished in second place at the Olympic Trials and U.S. Open last season. Most recently, she earned a silver medal at the University Nationals held in Oklahoma City, Okla. at the end of March.

At the college level, Francis was a two-time WCWA national champion and four-time All-American for Lindenwood University where she was coached by 2004 Olympian and two-time World medalist Toccara Montgomery.

Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level.

To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete’s name, wrestling program and weekly and career accomplishments to Richard Immel at
