Brad Vering (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) has been named Wrestler of the Week for the week of November 2-8. Each week, will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday. Vering won a gold medal at 84 kg/185 lbs. at the 2004 Greco-Roman World Cup held last weekend in Tibilisi, Georgia. Vering won all four of his matches and helped lead the U.S. team to a 2-2 record in the dual tournament and a third-place finish. In the two U.S. victories, Vering defeated 2004 University World bronze medalist Dmitri Kruglik of Belarus 4-0 and 2004 Olympian Melonin Noumonvi of France 3-0. In the two U.S. losses, Vering downed 2004 Asian Junior champion Khasem Rezai by fall in the second period and Mukhran Vakhtangadze of Georgia 3-0. Vakhtangadze was a 2001 World champion and 2003 Olympic bronze medalist. Vering, a member of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team, placed fifth at the 2002 and 2003 World Championships.
