When Pedro Meloni walks into a room, his presense is unmistakable.

A native Brazilian, Meloni brings a different perspective to USA Weightlifting. As the Senior Events Manager, Meloni is tasked with creating an experience that thousands of our athletes can prosper and do their very best.

Meloni will not settle for anything less than perfection.

"I think all athletes deserve the best from the USAW events and programs," Meloni said. "Taking USAW to the next level is something that really motivates me.

Born and raised in the small village of Martinho Campos, Brazil, Meloni brings to USA Weightlifting a diverse skillset in the sports world. Meloni worked at the Brazilian Sports Ministry and at the Brazilian Weightlifting Federation. He's also taught athletics, sports training, excercise physiology and weightlifting at a university.

His last job was to organizing the Olympic Weightlifting and Paralympic Powerlifting competitions at Rio 2016.

"It was years of hard work, but ultimately, it paid off," Meloni said.

International Weightlifting Federation President Dr. Tamas Ajan complemented Meloni and his team's execution of the Weightlifting events on the world's largest stage.

"Pedro Meloni deserves special praise for an excellent job," Dr. Ajan said. "He and his staff were working hand in hand with the IWF."

Beyond his talent at organizing impeccable weightlifting competitions, Meloni is closely connected to the Weightlifting world. One of his favorite memories of the sport, was Matthias Steiner's (GER) emotional, and final, lift of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Away from the sport world, Meloni enjoys spending time with his family and enjoying the outdoors.

"I try to do farm work when possible. I also enjoy the sunny beaches of Rio," Meloni said.

He's now trading the sand of Rio's famed beaches for a new adventure in the United States, based at USA Weightlifting's national office in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Look out for Pedro at the next USA Weightlifting national meet-- you can't miss him.
