COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Weightlifting and its board of directors today named Matt Sicchio as incoming chief executive officer, following an extensive and comprehensive global search conducted by SRI.
Sicchio will bring wide-ranging sports and management experience to USA Weightlifting, having served in leadership roles across a diverse set of sports businesses and advised numerous National Governing Bodies over the past 17 years. He currently serves as the chief operating officer for the United States Anti-Doping Agency, a role he has occupied since March of 2020. A proven operator and leader in the amateur sports space, Sicchio spent time earlier in his career in executive roles with USA Football and the U.S. Soccer Foundation.
“On behalf of the USA Weightlifting Board of Directors, we are very excited to introduce Matt to our community,” said USA Weightlifting President and Board Chair Paula Aranda. “Matt’s experience and professionalism across all aspects of running an organization will help level up USA Weightlifting to enter a new era of growth, athlete-centered focus and compliance. As we continue to be at the forefront of supporting anti-doping efforts, we believe that Matt will be an exemplary leader for USAW.”
A lawyer by training, Sicchio also spent seven years in management positions in the insurance and risk management industry, specializing in sport and fitness. During that time, he served and advised more than 20 NGBs, building important relationships and expertise within the Olympic Movement.
“I am humbled and excited by the opportunity to serve the sport of weightlifting and the USA Weightlifting community,” said Sicchio. “I am bullish on the future of weightlifting, from the grassroots to the elite level, and look forward to bringing my commitment to clean sport and passion for building high-performing teams to advance the sport at all levels.”
Sicchio succeeds Director of Finance & Compliance Andrea Andrews, who is serving as interim CEO following the departure of Phil Andrews. Sicchio will begin his role with USA Weightlifting in October, remaining in Colorado Springs, Colorado, which has been his home for the past nine years. He is an active member of the local community, currently serving as a board member for Colorado Springs Youth Sports.
