Two athletes hit the platform Tuesday at the 2019 World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand.

In the 96kg B session, Nathan Damron (Mash Mafia Weightlifting, Winston-Salem, NC) put up a 352kg total. In snatch, Damron made his 155kg opener, but missed 160kg and then 161kg.

“The opener felt good,” Damron said. “The 160 got away from me. We moved up to 161kg and I rested, but they just weren’t there today.”

In clean & jerk, Damron went 2-for-3. He made his opening lift at 190kg, then 197kg. But he came up just short on his 202kg third lift.

“I was happy with the 197kg. The 202kg was a little frustrating. Today was a funky day, I don’t know what was going on. I was happy to come out here though and improve on my 343kg total from last year,” Damron said.

In the morning session, Jason Bonnick (Vero Beach Weightlifting, Loxahatchee, FL) lifted a 347kg total. In snatch, he made his opener of 152kg, missed 157kg on his second, but made 157kg on his third.

“I made my first lift, but missed my second. 157kg is what I should open with,” Bonnick said.

In clean & jerk, Bonnick missed 183 on his first attempt, but came back to make it on his second and then successfully lifted 190kg on his third.

“I was getting a little tired on my clean and jerks,” Bonnick said. “The 190kg I had enough rest. My coaches told me what corrections to make and I executed it.”

Wednesday features just one athlete. Olympian Jenny Arthur lifts in the 81kg A session at 5:55 PM local time on ESPN3.
