USA Weightlifting selected Atlanta’s Airport District to host the 2020 Nike USA Weightlifting American Open Finals powered by Rogue Fitness December 3-6, 2020.
The Georgia International Convention Center will serve as the competition venue for the competition.
USA Weightlifting returns to the Atlanta Airport District for a second time in 3 years, having also hosted the 2017 National Youth Championships at the venue, and the same hotels. The venue is on theAtlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport campus, with a free SkyTrain taking you from the airport directly to the Convention Center and its associated hotels.
“We’ve been trying to return to Atlanta since the moment the 2017 Youth Nationals finished up,” Pedro Meloni, USA Weightlifting Senior Manager of Events & Sponsorships said. “The availability of a big Weightlifting community in Georgia, and an almost unbeatable location of the venue and hotels for convenient access to our members makes this a winning combination to bring the 2020 American Open Finals. Our thanks to the Georgia LWC for committing the volunteers to this event.”
As an Olympic City, hosting the Centennial Olympic Games in 1996, Atlanta has an unbreakable connection with Weightlifting and other Olympic sports. In more recent years, Atlanta has given the sport Olympian Jenny Arthur while World Championship team members Jourdan Delacruz, Morghan King and Harrison Maurus all train in the city.
"We are excited to bring a senior national event back to Atlanta for the first time since the 2008 Olympic Trials," Andrew Coggins, President of the Georgia Local Weightlifting Committee (LWC) and founder of Allsouth Barbell Club in Atlanta said. "We are proud of the strides we have made as an LWC and we plan to make this meet a memorable one with great support for the USA Weightlifting staff from our local clubs across the LWC."
The Marriott Atlanta Airport, Marriott Atlanta Airport Gateway and Springhill Suites by Marriott Atlanta Airport will be the meet hotels, located across the street or adjacent to the Georgia International Convention Center.
Qualifying totals and hotel registration information will be provided in early 2020.
