USA Weightlifting has been invited to attend the Australian Open Weightlifting Tournament from February 28-March 1, 2020 in Canberra, Australia. The event is approved by the IWF as an Olympic qualification event in the bronze category.

Weight Categories to be contested: All 20 Bodyweight Categories

Men:

55kg, 61kg, 67kg, 73kg, 81kg, 89kg, 96kg, 102kg, 109kg, +109kg

Women:

45kg, 49kg, 55kg, 59kg, 64kg, 71kg, 76kg, 81kg, 87kg, +87kg

There is no limit to the number of athletes per category per nation.

Athletes wishing to participate must understand this is a self-funded opportunity. 

Venue: Theatre, Australian Institute of Sport, Leverrier Street, Belconnen, Canberra, Australia.

Athletes will be responsible for all costs including entry fees, airfare, lodging and food:

Entry Fee: 160AUD (Anti-doping fee included)

Accommodation: limited availability in Australia Institute of Sport (AIS) at 80AUD/night, including meals. If Interested, please contact USA Weightlifting ASAP. Otherwise, you are encouraged to arrange your own accommodation in Canberra, a list of suggested hotels is available from the Australian Weightlifting Federation. 

Transportation: Participants will be responsible for own transportation. 

Training hall opens February 26. 

Please note athletes must meet all requirements expressed in the USA Weightlifting Selection Procedures, with particular attention paid to the USADA Lift Clean RTP requirement and minimum performance requirements needed to represent the USA on the international stage.

Per the 2018-2020 ROBI Selection Procedures, those athletes in each contested weight category with the highest ROBI score will be given the opportunity to attend, using totals achieved at National or International Competition in the previous six months to the final qualification event.
