Team USA returned to the medal stand Tuesday as Olivia Reeves swept silver in the 71kg weight category at the 2019 International Weightlifting Federation Youth World Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Reeves took home silver in snatch, lifting a best 84kg on her third attempt. She made her opener of 81kg before missing 84kg on her second attempt. She was perfect in the clean & jerk, going three-for-three, lifting 103kg, 106kg and 110kg. Her combined 194kg lifts earned her a silver medal in the total.

“I can't believe this is happening, I was expecting to get third or fourth," a beaming Reeves told USA Weightlifting. "I have been waiting for so long here in Las Vegas, and I was just so excited to lift."

Earlier in the day, in the women's 64kg session, Devyn Kim's star shined bright. In her first international competition-- and only fifth weightlifting competition ever-- Kim went five-for-six, including a perfect three-for-three in snatch. Her best snatch of 76kg, best clean & jerk 97kg and 173kg total secured her fourth place across the board. It was also a 2kg personal best in competition.

“I am really excited. It felt great to be out there,” Kim said. "My heart is still beating super fast, it was such a great experience."

Tomorrow, two more American athletes take the platform in the penultimate day of competition. Avery Owens lifts in the 81kg session at 2PM Pacific, while Morgan McCullough lifts at 5PM Pacific in the 96kg session. You can watch the action live from Las Vegas right here on USAWeightlifting.org.
