(Guatemala City, Guatemala) April 26, 2019 – Team USA earned two more Pan American Championship titles on day four of the competition, bringing the total medal count to 35. D’Angelo Osorio swept the gold medals in his 102kg bodyweight category and Wes Kitts took the golds in clean and jerk and total in the 109kg category, coming away with new Pan American and American Records.

Kitts defended his Pan American Champion title, opening with a 167kg snatch. He missed 172kg but hit 176kg on his third attempt winning the silver medal in snatch. Kitts’ perfect clean and jerk session started with a 207kg lift, followed by 214kg lift. He jumped to 223kg to break the Pan American and American clean and jerk and total records. His 399kg total is a 9kg personal record and beats Wes Barnett's long-standing 358kg American Record total.

"It's huge. I took multiple cracks at it on heavy nights, but I didn't quite get 223kg," Kitts said of his clean and jerks during this training cycle. "It feels amazing to knock that down tonight. This was an amazing night and I'm on top of the world right now."

Osorio went five for six, hitting 153kg on his opening snatch attempt. He jumped back on 158kg, missing the lift before making 159kg on his third attempt to secure the gold medal. “One more kilo put it in the right spot,” Osorio said of his last clean and jerk attempt. In the clean and jerk portion of the competition, Osorio hit 195kg, 200kg and 205kg to sweep gold and make an international competition personal record total of 364kg. “

“I’m so overwhelmed,” Osorio said after stepping off the podium. “It’s an unbelievable feeling but it feels great.”
