USA Weightlifting Heads to the Beach

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (September 6, 2018) – USA Weightlifting announced Thursday the 2019 Nike American Open Series 3 powered by Rogue Fitness will be held in Daytona Beach Florida, September 12-15, 2019.

The Ocean Center will play host to the event.

Daytona Beach has a significant place in the history of Weightlifting with the 1987 IWF World Championship for Women, the very first in the sport for Women hosted at the Ocean Center that year. Daytona Beach is also home to Spruce Creek High School which has won the FHSAA Weightlifting Championship a record 33 times.

“Daytona Beach is a beautiful city and we look forward to bringing the American Open Series to Florida next September,” Pedro Meloni, USA Weightlifting Director of Events and Sponsorships said.

The event will have hotels at various points along Daytona Beach’s oceanfront with the Hilton Daytona Beach serving as the headquarters hotel for the event.

Growing in popularity as a host destination for annual sporting events and competitions, Daytona Beach has hosted the NAIA Football National Championships since 2014.

The destination welcomes 8 million visitors per year and is recognized worldwide for its annual auto racing events at the Daytona International Speedway, including the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Daytona 500 and Coke Zero 400. Daytona Beach’s famed heritage also claims the U.S. headquarters of LPGA.
