LIVE FROM BUENOS AIRES Competition Day for Peyton Brown

By Kevin Farley - From Buenos Aires | Oct. 11, 2018, 9:24 a.m. (ET)

Team USA’s Peyton Brown is looking for a podium finish today as she takes to the platform in USA’s finale at these Youth Olympic Games. Her coach (and father) David Brown says Peyton’s last days of training have been going well and she’s ready to compete.

There was no action Wednesday on the platform as Weightlifting took its usual day off in the middle of the Olympic Competition.

Looking back to Tuesday, Jerome Smith finished 4th in the 69kg weight category. He went 5-6, with a best snatch of 127kg and best clean & jerk of 155kg. He missed his final attempt of 158kg. His 4th place finish was the best ever performance by an American weightlifting athlete at the Youth Olympic Games.

His coach, Jimmy Duke said he was very proud of Smith’s performance. 158kg would have been a personal best, and Jerome should be very proud.

Today all eyes are on Peyton. Her session begins at 2:30PM local time here in Argentina, 1:30PM Eastern time.

While no livestream will be available, we’ll be live tweeting Peyton’s session on our Twitter page. Be sure to check out the Olympic Channel later for highlights from the session.
