The 2018 World Weightlifting Championships will likely be held over 10 days in November in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, the International Weightlifting Federation revealed Wednesday.

The IWF just completed a technical visit to the venue. According to the IWF, the competition's probable dates will be November 1-10 with meetings and Congress to take place prior.

Twenty bodyweight categories will be contested in Ashgabat; ten bodyweight categories for men and ten for women. The IWF will finalize the new bodyweight categories by this summer.

USA Weightlifting will implement the new categories starting at the American Open Series 3 in Las Vegas.

The 2018 World Weightlifting Championships will be held at the facility built for the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.

USA Weightlifting, along with Sports Anaheim, hosted the 2017 World Championships at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, last year.
