USA Weightlifters Fighting Cancer Through “Kilos for a Cure” Competition

RWL Weightlifting & USA Weightlifting Support American Cancer Society’s

Coaches vs. Cancer With 3rd Annual Month-Long National Competition


Franklin, MA- September 13, 2017 – The American Cancer Society Coaches vs. Cancer program is excited to be partnering again this fall with, RWL Weightlifting and USA Weightlifting.  This third annual “Kilos for a Cure” fundraiser takes place October 1- 31, 2017. This event has already raised more than $20,000 in its first two years. 

“The competition is both friendly and fierce for these weightlifters.  They take their sport and this cause seriously.  And we are so grateful for that.  The funds and awareness they raise goes toward supporting cutting edge cancer research and programs that support cancer patients,” says Coaches vs. Cancer Community Manager, Brian Casalinova.

The month-long challenge features a virtual competition among USA Weightlifting Clubs across the country in both weightlifting and fundraising.  Each club will represent in the weightlifting portion of the contest. The full workout will be announced October 1 and all results must be reported by October 31, 2017.

“RWL Weightlifting is pleased to continue working with USA Weightlifting and the American Cancer Society in collaboration for ‘Kilos for a Cure,’ celebrating weightlifting as we try to help find a cure for cancer. We are asking you all to join in and do what you love!!! Lift weights and fundraise to help stop ending lives and disrupting families. We want to celebrate more birthdays,” said Dr. Ellyn Robinson, President of RWL Weightlifting, Inc. and breast cancer and melanoma survivor.  

Teams and clubs are also invited to join in the fundraising efforts and begin collecting donations within their local community. The top performing teams, in both the weightlifting and fundraising aspects, will be recognized by USA Weightlifting and the American Cancer Society.

Carissa Gump, who is a 2008 Olympian and oversees USA Weightlifting fundraising effort says “USA Weightlifting is pleased to continue working with Robinson Weightlifting and the American Cancer Society for the Kilos for a Cure campaign. We are setting the bar high this year in our efforts and hope more athletes and clubs will join us in our efforts.”
