Nearly 400 of the best Olympic Weightlifters will descend on the Chicago area this weekend for the 2017 Nike USA Weightlifting National Championships powered by Rogue Fitness. The Westin Lombard Yorktown Center will play host to this year’s National Championships which will feature familiar faces and rising stars of the sport.
In all, 5 athletes look to defend their 2016 National Championship crowns including Caitlin Hogan (53kg, Long Beach, California, Waxman's Gym), Jessica Lucero (58kg, Tustin, California, Catalyst Athletics), Mattie Rogers (69kg, Orlando, Florida, Florida Elite), James Tatum (85kg, Charlotte, NC, East Coast Gold) and Caine Wilkes (+105kg, Matthews, North Carolina, Little League Weightlifting).
“This is going to be a great weekend of weightlifting,” USA Weightlifting CEO Phil Andrews said. “Each of our sessions is stacked with the very best athletes in our sport. We hope you can either attend in person or watch the free live stream on USAWeightlifting.org.”

Other big names to watch this weekend: Cortney Batchelor (53kg, Mission Viejo, California, Team Juggernaut) her teammate Colin Burns (94kg, Mission Viejo, California, Team Juggernaut) and Marissa Klingseis (+90kg, St. Joseph, Missouri, Wesley Weightlifters).
Morgan King (53kg, Seattle, Washington, Unattached) returns to the competitive platform since her American Record-breaking performance at last summer’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Fellow Olympian Sarah Robles (+90kg, Desert Hot Springs, CA, Team Houston) looks to claim Gold in the super heavyweight category.
At 2PM Thursday, the training hall opens and registration will open for all athletes, coaches, and technical officials. Lifting begins at 8AM Central Time on Friday and continues all weekend long. Schedules for the event are available here.
The National Championships is always a homecoming for our sport. In honor of her many years of service at the USA Weightlifting National Office, this year’s nationals is dedicated to Laurie Lopez. Lopez will be on hand at the venue as we celebrate her contributions to our sport.
