Home Field Advantage for Team USA at Senior Pan Ams

July 21, 2017, 12:14 p.m. (ET)

Team USA is looking to capitalize on home field advantage as the 2017 Senior Pan American Weightlifting Championships July 23-27 in Miami, Florida.

More than 280 athletes from 23 Pan American countries will battle for a spot on the top of the podium at the Miccosukee Resort in Miami, Florida, home of the 2017 Senior Pan American Weightlifting Championships.

"We look forward to a spirited competition," USA Weightlifting CEO Phil Andrews said. "Some of the best weightlifting athletes in the world are here in the United States and we look forward to welcoming them to Miami."

For Team USA, strong performances are expected from the entire team. 2016 Olympic Bronze Medalist Sarah Robles (+90kg, Team Houston) returns to the platform for her first international competition since last year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. While Mattie Rogers (69kg, Florida Elite) looks to continue to dominate the field, going for her second consecutive international title, after winning the 2016 FISU World University Championships in Merida, Mexico.

On the men's side, Harrison Maurus (77kg, Alpha Strength & Conditioning) looks for a promising finish. He already has one Youth World Record and Youth World title to his name, after winning the 2017 IWF Youth World Championships in Penang, Malaysia earlier this year. Last month, Maurus swept gold at the 2017 USA Weightlifting National Youth Championships in Atlanta, GA.  Colin Burns (94kg, Team Juggernaut) is listed atop the 94kg entry list with a 371kg total.
