Anaheim, Calif. – Three-time Olympian Kendrick Farris presented his coach, Dr. Kyle Pierce, with an award Friday evening as he was inducted into USA Weightlifting’s Hall of Fame during the International Weightlifting Federation’s Weightlifting World Championships at the Anaheim Convention Center. Dr. Pierce was invited to the men’s 69kg A session to present the medals, but was not expecting to receive the National Governing Body’s highest accolade.

“I’m elated, I was surprised and had no idea,” he said. “This is a true honor.”

Dr. Pierce has spent the last 43 years advancing the sport of weightlifting worldwide. As the head of the Kinesiology department at Louisiana State University at Shreveport, he’s been instrumental in advancing weightlifting at the collegiate level in the United States. Since 2000, Dr. Pierce has hosted a USA Weightlifting and High-Performance Center as LSUS, hosting numerous weightlifting events and producing many national team athletes. In addition, Dr. Pierce has contributed extensively to the scientific research of the Olympic lifts.

On top of three-time Olympian Kendrick Farris, Dr. Pierce has coached multiple international level athletes. He’s coached three teams at the World Championships, including USA, Ghana and Seychelles.

“They have this saying that the athlete is like the seed and the coach is the soil. He’s been great for me,” Farris said of Pierce. “He gave me an opportunity to take root and grow. I’ve learned so much from him, and not just about weightlifting, but how to be an upright person. He truly embodies what the Olympic creed is all about.”

Dr. Pierce has won the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Coach of the Year Award three times, as well as the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Doc Councilman Award for Coaching Science. Earlier this year, Dr. Pierce was named Coach of the Year in Ghana and was awarded the Order of the IWF. Dr. Pierce serves on the IWF’s Coaching & Research Committee and is Vice President of the Pan American Weightlifting Federation.
