The International Weightlifting Federation released its latest magazine Tuesday, reflecting on the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro.
Team USA's Sarah Robles was highlighted for ending the United States' 16-year Olympic medal drought in weightlifting. Robles secured the bronze medal in the +75kg category.
In the magazine, IWF President Dr. Tamás Aján wrote about his meeting with International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach during the Games. Specifically, the two discussed weightlifting's future in the Olympic Games.
"The IOC President confirmed that weightlifting was a basic sport and an integral part of the Summer Olympic Games program," Aján said.
Aján also discussed the new women's weight category, doping and the IWF's pledge to rid cheaters from the sport.
