USA Weightlifting is excited to announce its 2016 – 2020 Direct Athlete Support Program for senior, junior, and youth athletes.
The USA Weightlifting Direct Athlete Support program will deliver over $430,000 plus bonus payments annually to both elite and developing athletes.
Athletes have the opportunity to earn monthly payments based upon their performance in national and international competitions. Payments are made on a monthly basis to athletes, up to a maximum payment of $3200 per month, based on where the athlete would have placed at the World Championships for their age group over the last two years.
Athletes lifting at the highest level competition for their age group, for example the IWF World Championships, will receive a 10% bonus for making the team for the forthcoming period. There are opportunities to earn additional individual bonus funding based on actual international performances.
Additionally, athletes competing as a team to earn slots at the Olympic Games, Pan American Games and Youth Olympic Games will receive significant team bonus funds based upon the acquisition of additional International Games slots for the United States.
“USA Weightlifting is proud to dedicate a high level of our revenue to directly supporting the training and competition activities of our elite athletes, and to fully rewarding our athletes for point production on the international platform. Continuing to support those individuals who make our sport is essential to the mission of USA Weightlifting,” said Phil Andrews, Director of Events & Programs.
