USA Weightlifting Welcomes New Staff to the Team Behind the Team

As USA Weightlifting undergoes organizational changes, CEO Phil Andrews is pleased to announce a number of new hires.

“We are delighted to welcome an experienced group of individuals to our team. As we focus on improving in the next two Olympic quads and continuing to support and grow our 24,000-strong membership, these individuals will be a key part of delivering an athlete-focused, customer-centric organization,” said Andrews.

Lance Williams – Associate Executive Director, Sport
Williams joins USA Weightlifting to oversee Sports Performance, Events, Coaching Education and Programs as part of USA Weightlifting’s staff leadership team with Phil Andrews and Carissa Gump. Williams will take direct responsibility for the sports strategy of the organization inclusive of selection procedures, athlete development and athlete services.

Prior to USA Weightlifting, Williams enjoyed 14 years with the United States Olympic Committee in various roles up to and including Director of Performance Operations – in which he pioneered the USOC’s Sports Medicine Network, Recovery Center, Sports Science area and oversaw the High Performance Training Site in Beijing.

Pedro Meloni – Senior Manager, Events
Meloni will report to Lance Williams and will manage the execution of USA Weightlifting’s eight annual national events, as well as the 2017 Pan American Championships and 2018 IWF Junior World Championships (if awarded to the United States). Additionally, he will oversee local event sanctions and results.

Currently, Meloni is the Weightlifting & Paralympic Powerlifting Manager at the Rio 2016 Olympic & Paralympic Games where he awaits the arrival of U.S. Olympians Kendrick Farris, Sarah Robles, Jenny Arthur & Morghan King this summer.

Subject to visa, Meloni will join USA Weightlifting following the completion of the 2016 Olympic & Paralympic Games.

Brad Suchorski – Membership Coordinator
Suchorski will report to Carissa Gump and will take the reigns over membership, including front-line customer service, membership inquiries, club registrations, and membership feedback. Suchorski will be particularly tasked with ensuring there is an unrelenting focus on customer service and membership retention.

Prior to joining USA Weightlifting, Suchorski spent time as a Membership Intern at USA Hockey and as an Operations Specialist at the United States Olympic Committee.

Kevin Farley – Social Media & Website Coordinator
Farley will report to Carissa Gump and will take over all USA Weightlifting Social Media initiatives increasing interaction and promotion of USA Weightlifting athletes. Additionally, Farley will manage USA Weightlifting's website (www.usaweightlifting.org) to improve navigation and make a more user friendly interface. 

Prior to joining USA Weightlifting, Farley worked as an Executive Producer in television on multiple NBC affiliated networks. Farley won two Emmy's in 2009 for Breaking News, and Outstanding Local Newscast. 

Jake Strack Loertscher – Sports Administrator

Strack Loertscher joins USA Weightlifting to oversee event sanctions and results, coaching education sanctions and results, and the national referee program. Additionally, he will provide operational support in the areas of events & coaching education.

Working closely with Pedro Meloni, but reporting to Lance Williams, Strack Loertscher will start in July 2016 following the completion of the USA Taekwondo National Championships, involving 4,000 participants, where he currently occupies the Event Manager role.

These new hires join a team already comprised of Phil Andrews (CEO), Carissa Gump (Associate Executive Director – Business & Development, 2008 Olympian), Laurie Lopez (Athlete Services & Programs Manager), Sandy Bowen (Finance Manager) and Ginny Critzman (Finance Coordinator).
