The 2017 USA Weightlifting National Junior Championships will take place in Kansas City, Missouri, from February 23 – 26, 2017.
Competition will occur at the Crown Center Exhibition Center, part of downtown Kansas City’s Crown Center complex, which also includes the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel. The complex, originally developed by Hallmark in the 1960s, features three levels of shopping, restaurants, and entertainment venues. In addition to a multitude of green spaces, fountains, and outdoor walkways, Crown Center has various kid-centric attractions, including an aquarium and Legoland.
The event will be hosted in partnership with Kansas City Weightlifting, headed by Anna Martin. Martin is a former assistant at the Olympic Training Center and a strength and conditioning coach at Oklahoma State University and Tulane University.
The competition will feature approximately 300 of the best 20-and-under lifters in the United States.
“Kansas City and its surrounding communities have long been a hot-bed of weightlifting, so it’s appropriate to bring this premier event for the junior age group to Kansas City. We are excited to return to western Missouri for the first time in four years,” said USA Weightlifting CEO, Phil Andrews.
Additional details, including entry forms and hotel reservation links, will be posted on or before September 1, 2016. Qualifying totals for the event are available here.
