Olympic Selection Procedures

USA Weightlifting, together with the United States Olympic Committee, has published the 2016 Olympic Games Selection Procedures for Athletes.

This document describes:

  • How an athlete is nominated to the 2016 US Olympic Team and/or the 2016 IWF Continental Qualification event.
  • How an athlete qualifies for the 2016 US Olympic Team Trials for Weightlifting.

USA Weightlifting will publish the 2016 Athlete Handbook for International Competitions on 1/13/16.

This document describes:

  • How an athlete is selected for all other international competitions.
  • How an athlete is funded for all other international competitions.
  • How the NCS (National Classification System) matrix is calculated.

USA Weightlifting will be hosting a series of webinars to assist coaches & athletes to understand the documentation. These webinars are designed to assist with understanding of these procedures for the Olympic Games and otherwise.

Both documents can be viewed HERE. 

Webinars are limited to 100 athletes and coaches, and will be recorded. They are available at the following times.

  • Friday January 15, 2016 at Noon (Mountain Time)
  • Monday January 18, 2016 at 6pm (Mountain Time)
  • Wednesday January 20, 2016 at 9am (Mountain Time)



    *Webinars are limited to 100 persons per time. If more than 300 people dial in, further webinars will be added.
