By Anna Resman | April 18, 2016, 12 p.m. (ET)

Team USA is traveling to San Salvador, El Salvador, for the 2016 Junior Pan American Championships hosted by the Pan American Weightlifting Federation. Delegations will arrive this weekend, with the opening ceremony occurring on Sunday, April 24. Competition will take place throughout the week, and the event will conclude with a closing ceremony on the evening of Friday, April 29.

Ten men and nine women, including four reserves, are geared up to represent the United States in San Salvador. These athletes earned their spots through a combined ranking from the 2016 National Junior Championships and 2015 American Open Championships.

The team has a strong mix of veterans and rising junior athletes. Nathan Damron (77kg, Advance, N.C.), Tom Summa (85kg, Advance, N.C.), Maddy Myers (63kg, La Jolla, Calif.), and Jessie Bradley (75kg, Provo, Utah) competed in last year’s Junior Pan American Championships in Colombia.

Bradley came home with two bronze medals in the snatch and total lift. At the time, she lifted a personal best in the snatch at 92kg. Since then, she has a set a new personal best, and a junior American record, at 99kg.

Myers originally placed fourth overall in last year’s event; however, she was recently awarded the bronze medal due to a doping violation. She is the current 63kg junior American record holder in the clean & jerk (118kg) and total (206kg) and also holds the clean & jerk and total records for the 58kg weight class. Myers has received the top female lifter award at the National Junior Championships for the past two years.

Harrison Maurus (77kg, Auburn, Wash.), Erin Amos (58kg, Colorado Springs, Colo.), and Jourdan Delacruz (53kg, Wylie, Texas) competed for Team USA in the 2015 Youth Pan-American Championships and 2015 IWF (International Weightlifting Federation) Youth World Championships. Kjayla Martin (+75kg, Johnson City, Tenn.) was a member of the 2013 IWF Youth Worlds team.

Delacruz, a resident athlete at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, is the junior American record holder in the snatch (77kg) and total (170kg). Maurus holds numerous youth American records in the 14 – 15 and 16 – 17 age divisions.

Jordan Cantrell (85kg, Clovis, Calif.), Joshua Ji (105kg, Rowland Heights, Calif.) and John Stang (62kg, Corvallis, Ore.) will be making their international debuts.

Coaches Travis Mash (Advance, N.C.), CJ Martin (San Diego, Calif.) and Kevin Simons (Auburn, Wash.) will lead the team. Daily results will be posted on the USA Weightlifting website.
