2013 Summer Universidad support call to action

May 20, 2013, 4:17 p.m. (ET)

The 2013 FISU Summer Universidad is set to take place in Kazan, Russia, July 6-17, 2013. Team USA will be represented by seven women and seven men. Athletes competing are: Holley Mangold (2012 Olympian); Erin Wallace; Vanessa McCoy; Megan Kranz; Heather Smith; Suzy Sanchez (2012 World University Championships silver medalist); Sylvia Hoffman; Kendrick Farris (2008 & 2012 Olympian); Mike Nackoul; Ian Wilson; Kollin Cockrell; Danny Schlag; Matthew Sisley; and Mike Asbate.

This event is a fully self-funded international competition.  Each athlete incurs the expense of travel, room and board accommodations. The total approximate cost is $4,000 for each athlete.

Reaching the podium requires commitment, sacrifice and years of training with the best coaching, equipment and facilities.  It also takes support from people that love weightlifting for our athletes to achieve their goals of representing Team USA on the International stage.  On behalf of the athletes, we are reaching out to the Weightlifting family asking for your support to assist in these athletes attaining their goals.

From May 20- June 28, 2013, any donations made via USA Weightlifting’s online donation page will be used to help support the athletes of Team USA at the FISU Summer Universidad.  The monies received will be distributed evenly amongst the athletes.  Checks may also be mailed to USA Weightlifting (1 Olympic Plaza, Colorado Springs, CO 80909) with a note in the memo field reading “USAW University Team.”
