2015 USA Weightlifting National Youth Championships head to the Mall of America Area Bloomington, Minn.

The Bloomington CVB, part of the Minneapolis-St Paul Metropolitan Area, in cooperation the Minnesota High School Weightlifting Organization, will host the 2015 USA Weightlifting National Youth Championships June 24-28. The meet will bring together 400 youth athletes, all of them age 17 and younger, from across the U.S. to compete in weightlifting.

Bloomington is home to the Mall of America and the Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport, and shuttles will operate to and from both of these key locations and the competition site.

The highest level of competition in the United States for athletes 17 years of age and under, the competition will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton, whilst the Mall Of America will host an exhibition of weightlifting.

As part of an ongoing effort to increase participation in Minnesota, the Bloomington CVB, in partnership with USA Weightlifting, will fund Team Minnesota to attend the 2016 National Junior Championships. Team Minnesota is made up of the top-ranked athletes from high schools across Minnesota and is the current 16-17-year-old Youth National Champion team.

“This is a perfect event for the city of Bloomington, which caters to a mecca of youth sporting events annually. Our goal is to provide an amazing experience for both the athlete and families traveling to our destination,” Todd Lehrke, Associate Director Sports Development for Bloomington CVB, said.

“The Minnesota High School Weightlifting Organization is excited to have Minnesota selected as the host of the 2015 National Youth Championships,” Chris Rousemiller, Director of the Minnesota High School Weightlifting Organization, said. “The competitive sport of Olympic Weightlifting is growing across Minnesota, and bringing the National Championship spotlight to the city of Bloomington will highlight the quality weightlifting environment that Minnesota is developing.

“Our goals are to continue to increase the awareness of weightlifting as a sport and work toward winning gold medals in all world and Olympic competition. Bringing in the best young lifters from Minnesota and across the country to this National Championship event is an exciting opportunity for our state and a great first step in reaching those goals for many of these lifters.”

“We are excited to support the Minnesota High School Weightlifting Organization’s drive to make Minnesota a sanctioned high school sport in the state and in bringing the Youth Nationals to the home of the Mall of America, Waterpark of America and Minneapolis-St Paul Airport. We feel that we can, together with the MHSWO, deliver a great event experience for the finest 17 and under athletes the USA has to offer,” Phil Andrews, Director of Events and Programs at USA Weightlifting, said.
