USA Weightlifting Regionals Headed to St. Louis

USA Weightlifting will bring its first regional competition of 2015 to St. Louis April 30-May 2 at the St. Louis Union Station.

The competition is classified as the final Pan American Games qualification event, and it will also allow athletes the opportunity to qualify for August’s USA Weightlifting National Championships in Dallas. 

Athletes who are not yet able to meet qualifying standards for USA Weightlifting’s national events can take this opportunity to lift alongside the best in the nation. Qualifying totals and registration information is detailed below.

St. Louis Union Station, a National Historic Landmark in the city’s downtown, was at one stage the busiest rail terminal in the world. Having opened in 1894, St. Louis Union Station served as the welcoming terminus for the 1904 Olympic Games. The station also features places to stay and eat at all price ranges. USA Weightlifting competitors will receive a discounted room rate at the St. Louis Union Station Hotel. In addition, the station has its own stop on St. Louis’ Metrolink system, allowing cost effective and quick access to St. Louis’ Lambert Airport.

USA Weightlifting will be partnering with local clubs Team LAB, Lift for Life Gym and Kirkwood WLC to bring this first regional competition to life.

“We are pleased to host the first regional competition in many years in St. Louis, a very central location for many of our members. We are excited both to work with our clubs in St. Louis to deliver a great competition and to offer qualification pathways to our national championships and also to learn what our membership desires from a regional competition series,” USA Weightlifting CEO Michael Massik said.

“The Lab Gym is delighted to partner USA Weightlifting in bringing the regionals to St Louis; we have wanted to bring national competition back to the St Louis metro for a while, and we hope that athletes will enjoy competing in St Louis and want to come back with a full national level competition,” Team LAB Head Coach Justin Thacker said.
