This fan code of conduct applies to non-USA Weightlifting members and existing members must adhere to the USA Weightlifting member code of conduct and could face further sanction if found to be in violation of that code. 

USA Weightlifting, its members and its clubs are committed to furthering its mission to create a diverse and inclusive environment for all members, participants, coaches and fans  free from  and harassment. Our Fan Code of Conduct has been created to specify acceptable and prohibited behaviors for fans in attendance at our events to ensure an enjoyable experience for all.

The following conduct is prohibited in every event venue including but not limited to the field of play, weigh-in rooms, meeting rooms, spectator seating areas, training hall, warm up area, rest areas, parking lots, registration, and event housing area. This applies to additional areas not listed if directly affiliated with the event. 

  • Displaying signs, symbols, images, using language or gestures that are threatening, abusive or discriminatory, including on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, ability and/or sexual orientation, physical/mental ability, and/or other seen or unseen ability.

  • Displaying signs, symbols or images for commercial purposes or for electioneering, campaigning or advocating for or against any candidate, political party, legislative issue, or government action

  • Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, threatening or violent in nature, including verbal or physical harassment of technical officials, competitors, staff or fans

  • Conduct that is illegal

  • Conduct that interferes with other fans’ enjoyment of the spectator experience

  • Conduct that results in damage to the venue or other personal property

  • Entering or attempting to enter the field of play other than that permitted by the fan’s ticket or credential

  • Possession of an unauthorized pyrotechnic device, smoke or firework or other Prohibited Items* (prohibited items are defined by the venue)

  • Projectiles of any kind

  • Noisemakers such as horns or speakers

  • Failing to follow requests from venue staff regarding venue operations, policies and emergency response procedures

  • Irresponsible use or consumption of alcohol (when permitted) or other substances

  • Any behavior that otherwise targets other fans, athletes, coaches, staff, officials, event staff, venue management, etc. 

Any fan who violates any of these provisions may be subject to penalty, including, but not limited to, ejection without refund and loss of ticket privileges for future events. Any fan who (1) conducts themselves in a disruptive or dangerous manner (“Level 1 Offenses”), or (2) commits multiple violations during a 12-month period, may be banned from attending future events for up to a year or longer. Level 1 Offenses include, but are not limited to, violent behavior, threatening, abusive or discriminatory conduct or language, trespassing or throwing objects onto the field of play, use or possession of unauthorized pyrotechnics or other dangerous Prohibited Items*, or illegal conduct.

Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, individuals who violate this Fan Code of Conduct may be required to submit a written request for admission to attend future events  to the USA Weightlifting ethics committee. 

Please note that USA Weightlifting reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone who has engaged in harassment of officials, athletes, staff or other fans or who have otherwise violated this Code of Conduct using social or digital media or other forms of communication.
