Club background:

The Wilmington Weightlifting Club, located in Wilmington, NC, provides expert coaching and training environment for the sport of Weightlifting. Formed in 2011, it is North Carolina’s largest and most successful Weightlifting Team, having won nine North Carolina State Championship Team titles including the 2019 Men’s, Women’s and Co-Ed titles.

The Wilmington Weightlifting Club offers both recreational and competitive Weightlifting programs for both local and remote athletes as well as Sports Performance, Powerlifting, Personal Training and General Fitness options. We also believe that the Olympic style lifts are essential in developing any athlete to their best potential and that is reflected in all our programs,

Our gym has nine training platforms and squat racks as well as over a dozen of each Men’s and Women’s barbells for training. We also have steel jerk blocks, pulling blocks and thirteen complete kilogram bumper style disc sets as well as metal plates, dumbbells and additional equipment for auxiliary work.

We host multiple Local Weightlifting Meets annually as well as Training Camps, Combines and USAW Coaching Courses so our members always have additional options to progress within the sport.

Our coaching staff has helped to set us apart, with two National Coaches with International experience in Head Coach Walt Neubauer and Travis Cooper. We also have Level Two USAW Coach Josh Venegas and Level One USAW Coaches Nicole Neubauer, Deidre Fetz, Estelle Rohr and Mike Reives. Our team of coaches work hand in hand to make sure that all our athletes receive the attention needed to achieve their goals.

Outreach programs:

Learn to Lift Series

The Wilmington Weightlifting Club offers the surrounding community the ability to attend our Learn to Lift series of technique clinics and classes for the sport of Weightlifting without the need for gym membership.

We do these as both a series of clinics done once a week for four consecutive weeks or as a six week course that meets twice per week with additional provided work to be done outside of class times.

University Partnership and Internship Program

We offer internship opportunities for students attending the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. During their internship, Exercise Science students receive Coaching Education on the Olympic style lifts and have the opportunity to take USAW Coaching Courses. They also get hands on experience in the day to day operations of running the training facility and assist in helping at Local Weightlifting Meets both at our gym as well as other local meets in the region.

Our Coaches also speak to University Students in their classrooms regarding life after graduation, coaching an Olympic sport, using the Olympic Lifts as part of a Sports Performance program and owning their own business.

High School Strength and Conditioning

The Wilmington Weightlifting Club partners with Wilmington Christian Academy to offer their students the ability to visit our facility in a field trip atmosphere to receive coaching and instruction from our team of coaches.

Through our affiliation with East Coast Gold, the Wilmington Weightlifting Club hosts an annual three day training camp each Spring where athletes can come work with one of the top coaching staffs in the country including but not limited to USAW Hall of Fame Coach Leo Totten, Walt Neubauer, Phil Sabatini, Travis Cooper, Josh Venegas and Brenden McDaniel.
