Year-Long Celebration Planned For Water Skiing's Centennial

The year 2022 commemorates the 100th anniversary for the sport of water skiing. To celebrate, USA Water Ski & Wake Sports has created a 100th anniversary logo and plans to promote the centennial through a year-long celebration via local, national and world events in 2022.

World Cable Wakeboard & Wakeskate Championships Moved To 2022

In light of current travel restrictions in Thailand, the IWWF and Thailand Extreme Sports Association (TESA) have agreed NOT to hold the rescheduled 2020 IWWF World Cable Wakeboard & Wakeskate Championships in Thailand this November 2021.

18 Athletes To Receive Elite Athlete Development Grants

USA Water Ski & Wake Sports is pleased to announce that 18 athletes will be receiving $900 each as part of the organization’s Elite Athlete Development Grant program. USA Water Ski & Wake Sports received the funds from the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee in the form of a COVID-19 relief grant.

As a part of our continued commitment to safeguarding our athletes, USA Water Ski & Wake Sports has enacted enhancements to our Safe Sport policy and education requirements. These policies, referred to as the Minor Athlete Abuse Protection Policies and Guidelines (MAAPP), are developed from baseline policies created by the U.S. Center for SafeSport (the “Center”).

Get On The Water Week Set For July 2-11

USA Water Ski & Wake Sports, along with ski clubs across the country, will host free learn to ski events. USA Water Ski & Wake Sports recognizes that financial limitations often hinder participation in towed water sports. Get on the Water Week, coinciding with the anniversary of Ralph Samuelson being the first to successfully water ski on July 2, 1922, was designed to provide a fun, non-intimidating environment in which participants can learn to water ski for free. Get on the Water Week as a coast-to-coast initiative, waiving all sanctioning fees and guest membership fees for USA water Ski & Wake Sports affiliated clubs that host basic skills learn to ski events from July 2–11, 2021, giving clubs the ability to better reach those who might not otherwise be able to participate.

IWWF Honors Athletes Of The Decade & Quarter Century

In consideration of the current global pandemic, the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation Bureau made the decision that it would not be appropriate to have the 2020 IWWF Skiers, Riders and Athletes of the Year Awards. In light of 2021 being the 75th Anniversary of the IWWF, it was decided that each sport division council should choose their Skiers and Riders of the Decade 2010–2019. Further, each Council could select their Female and Male Skiers and Riders of the past 25 years, if appropriate.

IWWF License Mandate Now In Effect

Based on a decision made at the 2019 IWWF Congress in Malaysia, all athletes wishing to register for Ranking List (RL)/Record Capability (RC) competitions must hold an IWWF License in the future. The introduction of the IWWF License will begin with the Barefooting, Cable Skiing, Wakeboarding Boat, Wakeboarding Cable and Water Skiing disciplines as of 2021. The disciplines of Disabled, Water Ski Racing, Show Skiing and Wakesurfing will follow in 2022.
