Ellis Announces Retirement From Professional Jumping

U.S. water ski athlete Scot “The Rocketman” Ellis (Auburndale, Fla.) has announced his retirement from professional water ski jumping after more than 30 years competing at the elite level.

USA-WSWS Awarded Sports 4 Life Grant

USA Water Ski & Wake Sports is pleased to announce it has received a Sports 4 Life grant from the Women’s Sports Foundation. The Sports 4 Life program, cofounded by the Women’s Sports Foundation and espnW, is a national initiative to increase sports participation and retention of African American, Native American and Hispanic girls. A total of $294,000 has been awarded to 42 organizations across 23 states, including Washington, D.C., helping to fuel and diversify sports opportunities expected to serve nearly 8,000 across 31 traditional and non-traditional sports.

U.S. Athletes Montavon, Smith Win Miami Pro Slalom Titles

U.S. water ski athletes Elizabeth Montavon (Lake Worth, Fla.) and Nate Smith (McCordsville, Ind.) won titles in respective events at the 2021 Miami Pro Slalom, Nov. 13-14, at the Greater Miami Ski Club in Doral, Fla. It was Montavon’s first career professional victory.

Four U.S. Teams Earn Medals At Pan Am Championships

Four U.S water ski teams – Elite, U21, U17 and U14 – competing in the 2021 IWWF Pan American Water Ski Championships earned team medals at the biennial event, Nov. 4-7, at Boca Laguna in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico. Athletes on the four U.S. teams combined to earn 29 individual medals, including five gold medals.

3-Event Qualifying Series and Criteria Announced For 62nd Nautique Masters

Nautique Boats is proud to release the qualifying criteria for the 62nd Nautique Masters Water Ski and Wakeboard Tournament, presented by GM Marine. Alongside the winners of the 2021 Nautique Masters and IWWF World Water Ski Championships, the Nautique Masters Qualifying Series will once again determine the remaining invited athletes for the water ski divisions held at the 62nd Nautique Masters, May 27-29, in Pine Mountain, Ga. All events will be pulled exclusively behind the world record-setting Ski Nautique and award-winning G23.

Four U.S. Teams Win Gold At IWWF Pan Am Senior Championships

Fifteen U.S. Senior Pan American Championships Water Ski Team members combined to win 55 medals, including 26 gold, at the 2021 IWWF Pan American Senior Water Ski Championships, Oct. 28-31, at Boca Laguna in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico. All four – 35+, 45+, 55+ and 65+ – U.S. teams competing at the biennial event won overall team gold medals.

Australia’s Carroll Becomes First Female to Jump 200 Feet; Sets Pending World Record

Australia’s Jacinta Carroll became the first female water ski athlete ever to jump 200 feet at the 2021 MasterCraft Pro on Saturday at Action Water Sports of Central Florida in Polk City, Fla. Carroll soared 202 feet (61.5 meters) to set a pending women’s world record.

U.S. water ski athletes Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.), Freddy Krueger (Winter Garden, Fla.) and Nate Smith (McCordsville, Ind.) won titles in respective events on Saturday at the 2021 MasterCraft Pro, presented by Action Water Sports, at Action Water Sports of Central Florida in Polk City, Fla. Some of the world’s top men’s and women’s water ski athletes competed in slalom and jumping at the two-day cash-prize tournament.

U.S. Representative Introduces Resolution Honoring Water Skiing's Centennial

U.S. Representative Angie Craig (Minn.) has introduced a bicameral resolution to honor the 100th anniversary of water skiing, which was invented on Minnesota’s Lake Pepin on July 2, 1922. The resolution, which was also introduced in the Senate by Senator Amy Klobuchar, encourages the United States Postal Service to design, print and distribute a new stamp honoring the upcoming anniversary – as well as Lake City’s contribution to water sports.
