U.S. water ski athlete Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) won the women’s slalom title at the 2022 Malibu Open, Sept. 30-Oct. 1, at Lymanland in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Some of the world’s top professional water ski athletes competed for titles in respective events.
Jaquess scored 1 buoy at 41 feet off in the finals. Canada’s Whitney McClintock (4 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off) and Jaimee Bull (2 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off) finished second and third, respectively.
Great Britain’s Will Asher won men’s slalom (3 buoys at 41 feet off) after a four-way runoff for the title. Asher scored 5 buoys at 41 feet off in the runoff, followed by Great Britain’s Freddie Winter (3 buoys at 41 feet off), Canada’s Stephen Neveu (3 buoys at 41 feet off) and Italy’s Thomas Degasperi (1 buoy at 41 feet off).
Canada’s Ryan Dodd won men’s jumping with a distance of 220 feet. U.S. athlete Freddy Krueger (Winter Garden, Fla.) finished second (219 feet). Hanna Straltsova (IWWF) won women’s jumping with a distance of 171 feet. In other events, Great Britain’s Joel Poland won men’s tricks with 11,590 points followed by U.S. athlete Jake Abelson (Holderness, N.H.) with 11,440 points.
