Minor Athlete Abuse Protection Policies For Event Participants

By USA Water Ski & Wake Sports | March 03, 2022, 2:11 p.m. (ET)

Thank you for your support of USA Water Ski & Wake Sports’ continued efforts to provide the safest environment possible for our athletes and other participants. Strategies for safeguarding athletes continue to evolve, and we are fully committed to keeping pace with best practices.

If you will be participating in any USA-WSWS sanctioned event this season, please read this information carefully, as it outlines Safe Sport expectations and best practices.

The purpose of this notice is to remind those participating in any USA-WSWS sanctioned event that they are bound by the U.S. Center for SafeSport Code, USA-WSWS Safe Sport Handbook, and the Minor Athlete Abuse Protection Policies (MAAPP) related to the safety and welfare of athletes. This includes the SafeSport Training requirement for all (1.) USA-WSWS members 18 and older who compete or participate in sanctioned tournaments or have regular contact with any athlete or other Participant who is a minor and (2.) event personnel who have regular contact with or authority over minor athletes.

Please take a moment to review the MAAPP At-A-Glance and the USA-WSWS Safe Sport web pages on the USA-WSWS website to find comprehensive resources regarding USA-WSWS Safe Sport efforts. Because we take the safety of athletes seriously, failure to follow Safe Sport policies could result in restrictions applied by the U.S. Center for SafeSport or USA-WSWS.

The full explanation of the USA-WSWS Minor Athlete and Participant Abuse Protection Polices and Guidelines can be found in the Safe Sport Handbook.

Duty to Report

Additionally, please be reminded about reporting obligations. USA Water Ski & Wake Sports, its members, and any adult event personnel or volunteer must report (a) any allegations of sexual misconduct involving a minor and (b) child abuse that they become aware of to the local law enforcement authorities and the U. S. Center for SafeSport.

We will continue to provide support in any way possible for our membership. For questions regarding SafeSport or the MAAPP, please email
