Social Distancing Guidelines - AWSA Events
The following are a list of guidelines that can be used if hosting or attending an AWSA event. Please remember that your state and local government guidelines are what need to be followed first and foremost. The below are best practices for social distancing at an AWSA event.
General Tournament Guidelines
- Have all attendees sign the COVID-19 Event Questionnaire and Waiver Release
- Only one skier on the dock at a time
- Dock starters should be at least 6 feet away or skier can dock start themselves
- Anything that forms a line (registration, practice or concessions) should have 6-foot separation markers
- Scoring should take place outside if possible
- If scoring is inside, only 1 scorer in trailer at a time
- Social gathering after tournament and/or meetings should be eliminated until state guidelines allow such activity
- Award podium should be 6 feet apart or give skier awards one at a time with no group podium pictures
- If applicable, take temperature of all participants and attendees each day upon arrival. Anyone with 100.4 or above temperature should be asked to leave
- Masks or face coverings should be worn
- Hand sanitizer should be dispersed throughout the site, on docks, bathrooms, towers, boats, etc.
Slalom Guidelines
- Judges on a tower should be limited to one at a time. If more than 1 judge is required, they should be separated by 6 feet or be family members
- Boat judge/driver teams should be established so that the same pairs of officials are always in the boat together, minimizing the number of people each official is in contact with or assign family members to these positions
- Boat judges must sit to far right of driver as opposed to in the middle seat (please have weights to aid in balancing boats)
- Boat driver and judge should wear masks or face coverings
Trick Guidelines
- Where physical distancing is challenging, for example with the boat driver and pin person in tricks, all efforts should be made to keep the interaction time as short as possible. The pin person should not enter the boat until just before the skier run is to start and should exit the boat immediately upon return to the dock. Both the driver and pin person should wear masks or face coverings
- Judges should be 6 feet apart and use of secretaries (unless family members) should be avoided. Settings should be communicated ahead of time, perhaps with the IWWF tricks form that was used at Nationals last year. Cameras should be operated remotely, so that a camera person in the boat is not required. For slalom and jump, perhaps boat judge/driver teams should be established, so that the same pairs of officials are always in the boat together, minimizing the number of people each official is in contact with
Jump Guidelines
- Boat judge/driver teams should be established, so that the same pairs of officials are always in the boat together, minimizing the number of people each official is in contact with or assign family members to these positions
- Boat judges must sit to far right of driver as opposed to in the middle seat (please have weights to aid in balancing boats)
- Only one VJ operator in jump
- Boat driver and judge should wear masks or face coverings
Safety Guidelines
- Safety is perhaps the hardest spot to practice social distancing. All efforts should be made to make sure safety interaction occurs one-on-one as opposed to a group of people
- Safety personnel should wear masks or face coverings
- Suggest that safety boats be used instead of shore-based swimmers. A swimmer from the shore would not be able to maintain any level of face mask for their protection (a safety crew in a boat would have better ability to protect themselves)
Announcing Guidelines
- Only 1 announcer in tower at a time
