Men's Update: Five Things About Murphy Troy

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec. 17, 2015) – U.S. opposite Murphy Troy is playing for LOTOS Trefl Gdansk in Poland this winter. Here are five things you might not know about Troy.

  1. He majored in physics at the University of Southern California.Murphy Troy
  2. Received the 2010-11 Pac-10 Tom Hansen Conference Medal, which is awarded to the best male and female senior student-athletes that exhibit the “greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership.”
  3. His Polish team provides him with a car that has his name and photo on the outside.
  4. As a native of St. Louis, he is a huge fan of the Cardinals.
  5. Troy was the leading scorer of all players in the Polish league during the 2014-15 season.

POLAND

Troy had one of his best matches of the season as Gdansk defeated Cerrad Czarni Radom on Dec. 12. Troy led all scorers with 32 points on 29 kills and three aces.

U.S. outside hitter Thomas Jaeschke is back on the roster for Asseco Resovia Rzeszow after sitting out a few matches with a stomach injury. He played as a substitute as Resovia Rezeszow defeated Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, 22-25, 17-25, 25-17, 25-12, 15-10 on Dec. 12. Middle blocker Russell Holmes started all five sets and scored eight points on five kills, two blocks and one ace.

RUSSIA

In the final of the Cup of Russia on Dec. 13, U.S. opposite Matt Anderson and Zenit Kazan defeated Belogorie Belgorod, 25-22, 25-19, 25-21. Anderson scored four points in the match. In the third-place match, middle blocker Max Holt and Dinamo Moscow beat Lokomotiv Novosibirsk, 21-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-18, 18-16.

ITALY

Outside hitter Aaron Russell scored 15 points as Sir Safety Perugia beat Ninfa Latina, 25-22, 25-22, 25-19 on Dec. 13. Russell scored on 11 kills, one blocks and three aces. Russell was also credited with 13 receptions, 46 percent positive. Outside hitter Sam Holt played as a substitute.

Setter Micah Christenson and Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova defeated Diatec Trentino, 23-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 16-14 on Dec. 13. Christenson scored four points on a team-high four blocks. He also set Civitanova to a .383 hitting efficiency.

Outside hitter Taylor Sander and Calzedonia Verona beat Gi Group Monza, 21-15, 25-23, 25-21, 25-22 on Dec. 13. Sander scored 20 points on 14 kills, a team-high four blocks and two aces. Sander was also credited with 27 receptions 63 percent positive.

GERMANY

Libero Erik Shoji, outside hitter Paul Lotman and the Berlin Recycling Volleys beat United Volleys RheinMain, 25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 25-16 on Dec. 12. Lotman scored 11 points on eight kills, two blocks and one ace. He was credited with 31 receptions, 52 percent positive. Shoji was credited with 14 receptions, 71 percent positive.

Setter Graham McIlvaine and TV Ingersoll Buhl beat Netzhoppers KW-Bestensee, 26-28, 25-19, 21-25, 25-22, 15-7 on Dec. 12. McIlvaine scored four points on three blocks and one ace. He set Buhl to a .426 hitting efficiency. Outside hitter Peter Russell started the fourth set and scored two points on two kills.

Middle blocker Dylan Davis and VSG Coburg/Grub beat TV Rottenburg, 20-25, 29-27, 18-25, 25-15, 17-15 on Dec. 12. Davis scored 10 points on seven kills, one block and two aces. Outside hitter Ryan Thompson started the fourth and fifth sets and scored eight points on seven kills and one block.

SVG Luneburg, with middle blocker Scott Kevorken defeated CV Mitteldeutschlan, 25-17, 25-23, 25-23 on Dec. 12. Kevorken scored five points on four kills and one ace.

FRANCE

Middle blocker David Smith and Tours beat Toulouse, 25-21, 25-17, 26-24 on Dec. 12. Smith scored eight points on four kills, three blocks and one ace.

Libero Dustin Watten and Nancy fell to Poitiers, 25-13, 25-16, 27-29, 21-25, 15-8 on Dec. 12. Watten was credited with 24 receptions, 71 percent positive.

Outside hitter Scott Rhein and Chaumont lost to Montpellier, 25-22, 30-28, 25-15 on Dec. 12. Rhein scored four points on four kills. He was credited with 33 receptions, 61 percent positive.

TURKEY

Setter Kawika Shoji and Arkas Spor beat Fenerbahce, 25-18, 25-19, 25-21 on Dec. 12. Shoji scored three points on two kills and one block. He set Arkas Spor to a .431 hitting efficiency.

Opposite Will Price helped Istanbul BBSK beat Bornova Anadolu Lisesi, 25-21, 29-27, 25-20 on Dec. 12. Price scored 11 points on seven kills two blocks and two aces.
