RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (Aug. 22, 2016) – U.S. Men’s National Team outside hitter Aaron Russell was named to the Rio 2016 men's volleyball Dream Team after the team won the Olympic bronze medal.
Russell started 27 sets for the U.S. Men and finished third among all players in kills with 96 kills and 30 errors on 197 attempts for a .335 hitting efficiency. He finished fifth among all scorers with 107 points on 96 kills, seven blocks and four aces.
Several other U.S. players finished among the Olympic statistical leaders.
Setter Micah Christenson finished first among setters with 340 running sets and three faults in 31 sets (10.97 running sets per set). A running set is general defined as a set that puts a hitter against zero or one blocker.
Libero Erik Shoji finished first among diggers (1.81 digs per set) and second among receivers (75 excellent receptions and 11 faults on 166 attempts). Outside hitter Taylor Sander led all receivers (81 receptions and eight faults on 166 attempts).
Opposite Matt Anderson finished second among all scorers with 128 points on 108 kills, 10 blocks and 10 aces.
Holt finished second in aces (12 aces, .39 per set), Sander was third (11 aces, .35 per set), Anderson was fourth (10 aces, .32 per set).
