COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 5, 2012) – A 12-player roster of up-and-coming men’s volleyball players has been selected to represent the United States at the 2012 Pan American Cup on July 9-14.

The team has been training at the American Sports Centers in Anaheim, Calif., and will hold a Red versus Blue scrimmage at 5 p.m. on Friday (July 6) at the Tstreet Volleyball Club in Irvine, Calif. It will be free and the public is welcome to attend.

The outside hitters on the roster will be Jordan Dufault (Lakewood, Calif.), Garrett Muagututia (Oceanside, Calif.), Tony Ciarelli (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Taylor Sander (Huntington Beach, Calif.).

Middle blockers are Dan McDonnell (Glendale, Ariz.), Dylan Davis (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) and Matt Rawson (Los Angeles).

Opposites are Murphy Troy (St. Louis, Mo.) and Carson Clark (Santa Barbara, Calif.).

Setters are Kawika Shoji (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Ryan Ammerman (Parker, Colo.).

The libero will be Dustin Watten (Long Beach, Calif.).

“This is a very talented group of gentlemen that are the future of USAV,” said U.S. Men’s Pan American Cup Head Coach Shawn Patchell. “The team has trained well and improved every day. We started with 25 athletes so this was truly a competitive tryout. “

Most of the players have played internationally either with USA Volleyball or professionally or both. Most were also highly decorated collegiate players, including Ciarelli, Shoji and Troy who have been the last three winners of the AVCA Men’s Division I-II National Player of the Year award.

“Many players from this team have trained with the players on the World League and Olympic rosters all summer so they are excited to get their chance for the podium,” Patchell said. “Many players on this roster will make the 2013 World League Team and be a part of the 2016 quad.”

In the Dominican Republic, the U.S. Men’s Pan American Cup team will play in Pool B along with Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela. Pool A will include Argentina, Canada, Dominican Republic and Trinidad & Tobago.
