2019 USA U21 National Training Team - Women

The USA U21 National Training Team - Women is the highest level of programming for the U21 age group and represents the United States in competition every other year. For 2019, the U21 National Team will compete at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships.

USA Volleyball U21 World Championship team selection will consist of a two day trial. USAV will be handling all travel and accommodations arrangements for invited athletes. Athletes will be invited by USAV for trial participation on April 14 - 15, 2019. USAV will be inviting athletes on April 9 & 10, 2019 based on the selection criteria outlined below.

Sessions 1 & 2 will be statistically evaluated to determine an overall athlete rank. Teams will be formed by pairing the athletes according to rank order, position and pairing dynamics.  Session 3 will be a paired training session in preparations for competition. Session 4 will be a tournament to determine final pair ranking.

Once selected, the first, second, and third place pairs will be submitted as the USA delegation for the FIVB U21 World Championships.  USAV will make all travel arrangements for the full delegation. The first and second place pairs will train and travel for the competition. The third place athletes will be submitted as a Reserve Team, to be called upon in case of injury.  (Injuries are handled on a per athlete bases, not pairs, per the FIVB Sport Regulations).


1.1 Be eligible to compete for the United States per USAV, NORCECA, FIVB and IOC regulations/requirements.

1.2 Be born in 1999 or 2000.

1.3  Providea signed letter from their university, if applicable, approving the athlete to participate. The letter must be submitted with required registration information to Katie Mitchell at

1.4  Ability to obtain or already possess a passport valid through December 24, 2019.

1.5  Complete availability for training, travel and competition for the FIVB U21 World Championships, inclusive of the dates June 10 - 24, 2019.


2.1 The U21 Trials is by invitation only from the pool of athletes that meet the minimum requirements in SECTION 1 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS and approved by the Selection Review Committee outlined in SECTION 2.2 using sources defined in SECTION 2.1.i and SECTION 2.1.ii.

  1. Female athletes will be considered and selected based upon the following sources from the last calendar year (April 8, 2018 - April 8, 2019) in no particular order: USAV High Performance Beach Tryout Evaluation

      c. FIVB Beach Volleyball World Ranking
      d. MoVR Individual Ranking

      f. 2018/2019 CCCAA Pair/Players Rankings 

  2. Male athletes will be considered and selected based upon the following sources from the last calendar year (April 8, 2018 - April 8, 2019) in no particular order:
                 a. USAV High Performance Beach Tryout Evaluation
                 b. USAV High Performance Beach Training Program Evaluation
                 c. USA National Beach Rankings
                 d. FIVB Beach Volleyball World Ranking 
                 e. U.S. Men's National Team Open Tryout Evaluation
                 f. AVP Rank and Points
                 g. CBVA Rank and Points

2.2 The Selection Review Committee will consist of:

  1. 4 USAV Staff Representatives

  2. 1 USAV Beach Athlete Representative

2.3 The invited participating athletes of the U21 Trials will have all costs related to travel, board and lodging covered by USAV.

2.4 The Trials process will consist of a maximum of 12 athletes per gender to compete for the following:

  1. The highest finishing pair in each gender to be submitted to NORCECA for consideration into the Main Draw of the FIVB U21 World Championships

  2. The next highest two additional pairs to be submitted to NORCECA for consideration into the Qualification Tournament of the FIVB U21 World Championships.

  3. In the event that a selected athlete is unable to attend the U21 FIVB World Championships, the next highest ranked athlete able to attend will be invited to the U21 World Championships, pending acceptance by NORCECA and the FIVB.

2.5 Invited athletes must respond to their invitation within 48 hours directly via email to Katie Mitchell at


3.1 Athletes must adhere to all World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) and US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) protocols, policies and procedures. This includes out-of-competition testing as required by WADA, FIVB and USADA.


4.1 If any force of nature or force majeure should cause the alteration or cancellation of any of the selection events listed in this document, these selection procedures will be revised pursuant to approval of the USA Volleyball High Performance.


5.1 An athlete that declines the U21 Trials after receiving an invitation and does not attend the U21 Trials will be considered for the High Performance Collegiate Beach National Team to occur during 2019.
