Katie Holloway attacking for Team USA during Parapan American Games match against Canada
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 26, 2019) – The U.S. Women’s National Sitting Team, ranked No. 1 in the world, completed the Parapan American Games pool play undefeated following a 25-14, 25-17, 25-12 victory over Canada in Lima, Peru.
The U.S. Women, now 3-0 in the four-team preliminary round robin, heads into Tuesday’s semifinals as the top seed with an opponent and time to be determined. The medal round is set for Wednesday.

Monique Burkland (Ardmore, Oklahoma) paced Team USA with 14 points including 11 kills on 19 swings, two blocks and one ace. Heather Erickson (Fayetteville, North Carolina) added nine kills on 19 attacks and two blocks for 11 points. Katie Holloway downed seven kills, two blocks and an ace for 10 points.
On her birthday, Lora Webster (Point Lookout, New York) registered seven blocks and an ace for eight points from her middle position. Setter Kaleo Kanahele Maclay (Honolulu, Hawaii) charted two kills, one ace and one block for four points. Lexi Shifflett (Waseca, Minnesota) and Nicky Nieves (Kissimmee, Florida) totaled two points. Jillian Williams (Odem, Texas) rounded out the scoring with a kill.
Libero Sydney Satchell started the first and third sets and was unofficially credited with eight receptions. Burkland was 83 percent positive on a team-high 12 receptions.
Team USA converted 42 percent of its attacks with the combination of Shifflett and Kanahele Maclay setting.
The Americans out-blocked the Canadians 16-5 and the U.S. held a 6-5 edge in aces.
Team USA jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opening set and never looked back in the set or the match. In the second set, the U.S. broke a 3-all tie with a 4-0 run to take a 7-3 advantage. The Americans widened the second set gap to 20-13 after scoring seven of nine points en route to the 25-17 victory. The U.S. ran off six unanswered points to stake a 7-1 lead in the third set and forged ahead for the 25-12 victory.
