DALLAS, Texas (May 28, 2018) – The U.S. Women’s and Men’s Sitting National Teams each went 5-0 against their Canadian counterparts on May 25-27 as the USAV Open National Championships.

Each team was using the matches as warmups for the Sitting Volleyball World Championships on July 15-22 in Netherlands.

It was the first time this season that both the women’s and men’s teams have been able to have all their players together for competition.

“Our goal was to get what we think our starting group will be in sync,” U.S. Women’s Sitting Head Coach Bill Hamiter said. “We’re still analyzing a lot of players, so we used a lot of players throughout. We even played some bonus sets so both teams could play more players and get better data.”

The five victories helped women’s middle blocker Lora Webster feel more confident about her team heading into Worlds.

“It’s always nice to know that regardless of the lineup we put out, we’re a consistent team,” she said. “That’s the benefit to these kinds of things.”

For the men’s team, the five matches against Canada allowed players to get more international reps and to improve as they went along.

“The one thing that Canada has changed in their system is they are attacking the ball with a lot more force,” U.S. Men’s Head Coach Greg Walker said. “The one thing we had to deal with is how do we manage teams where we’re not quite sure how they are going to play and they start firing off? What adjustments do we make?

“As we were going through, I was pretty happy with some of the players and how they were adjusting.”
