Top College Beach Pairs to Compete in Hermosa

HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. (May 7, 2018) – Top collegiate beach volleyball pairs will hit the sand on May 10-12 in Hermosa Beach for the Bridgestone USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships, part of the 2018 Team USA Summer Champions Series presented by Xfinity.

The dual-gendered pairs event returns with a 30-team women's bracket and eight-team men's competition. The finals will be televised on NBCSN from 4-6 p.m. ET on May 12. A qualifier originally planned for May 9 has been cancelled.

Women's and men's teams will be playing for a spot to represent the United States at the 2018 FISU World University Championship

Women’s pairs will represent 2018 NCAA Championship runner-up Florida State as well as Cal Poly, Cal, Long Beach State, Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, Grand Canyon, Houston Baptist, Louisiana State, Pepperdine, St. Mary’s College of California, South Carolina, TCU, Tulane, Alabama-Birmingham, North Carolina-Wilmington, Hawaii and Washington.

Men’s pairs will represent Florida State, Hawaii, Concordia, Penn State, Pepperdine, Quincy, UC Irvine and UCLA.

The action begins on Thursday morning with pool play and continues on Friday with the men’s semifinals. The women’s semifinals and medal matches will be Saturday.

The Team USA Social Truck presented by OREO will be at the Hermosa Beach Promenade on May 12 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The truck – which is free and open to the public – will feature multiple social interactive elements, along with a prize wheel and free OREO cookies samples. Additionally, three-time Olympic beach volleyball champion Kerri Walsh Jennings (1:30-2:30 p.m.) and the U.S. beach team of Sara Hughes and Summer Ross (10-11 a.m.) will be signing autographs.

The Bridgestone USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships is part of the 2018 Team USA Summer Champions Series, presented by Xfinity. The Champions Series showcases numerous Olympic sports throughout the season, highlighting the year-round quest of Team USA athletes to compete at the Olympic Games.
