Tess Reid (23) and the Red Team celebrate during the U.S. Collegiate Team's scrimmage on Wednesday.

DETROIT, Mich. (June 28, 2018)Tess Reid remembers.

She remembers competing at the USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships. She remembers bonding with her teammates and playing on the championship court.

Action at the Girls’ Junior National Championships continues today with finals in the 14s divisions, including the Open final at noon ET on Court 25. Watch LIVE.

Things weren’t so different on Wednesday when she played on the championship court with her new teammates on the Women’s Collegiate National Team.

The Collegiate National Teams are part of USAV’s High Performance program and bring together some of the top college players in the country to train and compete.

Reid, a setter who will enter her junior season at Loyola Marymount in the fall, said the first two days at her team’s training camp in Ann Arbor, Mich., were a little scary.

“Everyone was a little nervous and timid. Nobody really knew each other,” she said. “Day 2 and Day 3 come in and now we’re all best friends. We did some team-building activities and honestly we got a lot closer from that. I feel l like I’ve known these girls forever.”

The stands at the championship court at Cobo Center were filled with players, coaches and fans from the Girls’ Junior Nationals to watch the team’s inter-squad match on Wednesday. Reid used to be one of those players.

“Oh yeah, we came to Nationals every year,” she said. “I played for KC Power and they’re out here supporting, which is awesome. I try to see them play. I love junior nationals so much. It’s good to be back.”

Reid said she encourages young players who want to move up USA Volleyball’s High Performance pipeline and the Path to the Podium to focus on “being a good teammate.”

“You don’t have to be intense and a straight-faced machine all the time,” she said. “(USA Volleyball) appreciates good character, good teammates and good leaders.”

The team will scrimmage again on Thursday (June 28) at 5 p.m. ET. You can watch live on the USAV Watch page.

In the scrimmage, Reid and fellow setter Haley Templeton from the University of Miami combined to set the Red Team to a .436 hitting efficiency as it came back from 0-2 to beat the White Team, 18-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-8.

Yossiana Pressley, an outside hitter out of Baylor who started the final four sets, led all scorers with 20 points on a match-high 16 kills (.577), two blocks and two aces. Pressley was credited with 17 receptions, 71 percent positive.

Kaylin Korte, an outside hitter from Clemson who started four sets, added 18 points on 15 kills, two blocks and one ace. Korte was also credited with 23 receptions, 74 percent positive.

Lauren Sanders, a middle blocker from the University of Washington, totaled 16 points on a match-high nine blocks, a match-high three aces and four kills.

On the White Team’s side, outside hitter Kendra Dahlke from the University of Arizona and Meredith Norris, an outside from Michigan State, each scored 11 points. Norris was credited with 20 receptions, 85 percent positive.

Dahlke scored on nine kills, one block and one ace while Norris finished with eight kills, two blocks and one ace. She was credited with 21 receptions, 52 percent positive.
