DETROIT, Mich. (July 1, 2018) – SG Elite 11Roshambo basically rolled through the USAV Girls’ Junior National Championships, losing only one set on its way to winning the 11 National title on Sunday at the Cobo Center.

In the final, SG Elite (Southern California Region) defeated OT 11 S. Danny (Florida), 25-18, 25-12.

The 2018 Girls’ Junior National Championships (GJNC) will continue through July 4.

SG Elite Head Coach Will Wong made sure his young team didn’t burn out early in the tournament.

“When we came in, we were ready for this competition,” he said. “Right off the bat, we wanted to take care of business really fast and save the energy for the later matches. That’s what we did. We did reallyl well in pool play.”

SG Elite did not lose a set until the semifinals on Sunday, where it beat Madfrog 11’s N. Blue (North Texas), 25-20, 23-25, 15-13. In the other semifinal, OT 11’s beat out Flyers 11 Rox-Alex (North Texas), 26-24, 25-18.

Wong said the secret to his team’s success is staying aggressive.

“I tell them to play aggressively,” he said. “I tell them, ‘even if you make a mistake, just stay confident. Think that you’re the best player out there.’”
