COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec. 11, 2018) – Your path to the podium could begin this week with registration now open for the 2019 USA Volleyball High Performance Tryouts.

High Performance Tryouts are held around the United States, often in conjunction with a tournament, and are the first step to athletes getting involved in USAV’s HP program, the pipeline to the National Teams.

Each tryout is a four-hour event in which athletes complete physical testing and positional evaluations during a variety of drills and game play along with other athletes within their international age group.

Some athletes will be invited to a training program or even to be part of a high-performance national team. Others might be wait-listed in case others do not accept their invitations. Not all will receive invitations, but are welcome to try out again as they progress.

Ten out of 12 members of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Men’s Volleyball Team played in some portion of the USAV HP pipeline while nine out of 12 members of the Olympic Women’s Volleyball Team participated.

“When I first tried out for the (Boys’ Youth National Team), I didn’t make it,” said two-time Olympian Matt Anderson. “But I got selected for an A2 team that went to Colorado Springs for a camp.

“It was a good gauge to see where I stood among people in my age group.”

Anderson went on to make the Boys Youth Team the following year and also played on two Men’s Junior National Teams before winning the NCAA National Championship with Penn State.

The 2019 Indoor tryout schedule is posted here. For any questions, contact indoorhp@usav.org.
