Sitting Teams Win Both Day 2 Matches

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 28, 2017) – The U.S. Women’s and Men’s Sitting Teams each won their matches on Friday, the second day of the ParaVolley Pan America Championships in Montreal.

The U.S. Women (2-0) swept Canada, 25-13, 25-22, 25-9. The U.S. Men (2-1) swept Costa Rica, 25-7, 25-14, 25-19.

On Saturday, the U.S. Women will play two more pool play matches. They play Brazil at 10:30 a.m. ET and Canada at 4 p.m. ET.

The U.S. Men will play a semifinal match against Canada at noon ET. All matches will be shown live at http://www.rds.ca/defi-sportif. Saturday’s match is important for the U.S. Men because the top two finishers will qualify for the 2018 World Championships.Nichole Millage of the U.S. Women's Sitting Team

The U.S. Men dominated Costa Rica in kills (45-8), blocks (8-5) and aces (6-2).

U.S. Men’s Head Coach Greg Walker got every player on the roster playing time in Friday’s match, including newcomers Nick Dadgostar, Patrick Young and Zach Upp.

Eric Duda started the first two sets and led all scorers with 13 points on a match-high 10 kills, one block and two aces. Upp started the second two sets and scored nine points on eight kills and one block. Charlie Swearingen started the second two sets and totaled seven points.

Every member of the U.S. Women’s Team also played against Canada. Katie Holloway led the way with 12 points on a match-high 10 kills and two blocks. Monique Burkland started the second two sets and added 11 points on five kills, three blocks and three aces. Heather Erickson and Nicky Nieves each scored 10 points.

The U.S. Women led Canada in kills (38-15), blocks (11-7) and aces (9-4).
